My pooor Vert
Just got back from the shop. It's a mess. Apparently when our dear local Nissan shop did the TB at 115k that's just exactly all they did was the timing belt nothing else. It now has only 136k on it.
The water pump is leaking, all the belts look like the originals from the factory, all the lower timing belt cover bolts look like they came from a salvage yard and are so corroded that they look like they've been basking in battery acid. The rubber crommets that are on the bolts look like they've been extremely hot and over compressed. I told Jose to just do it all, since we're that far into it. So he'll do the seals tensioner and all the right stuff, plus whatever else he see's and questions. Guess my suspension work just went on a longer hold.

Re: My pooor Vert
The head of the Nissan shop here used to be a great trustworthy person. I knew when he said "we may not have changed the pump" I was in deep shit. I have faith in Jose he spent 12+ years with chevy and has had his own shop for some time now. He is the only person one of my friends lets work on his TT and he has about 6 old 240's sitting around that belong to the TT owner.
I know it won't be cheap but I know he'll fix it right. He knows that if anything looks questionable to ask me or just replace it. He also found some leakage/seepage around the transmission cooling lines, already had them on his list to do. He was already going to flush and service the tranny. |

Re: My pooor Vert
Wow Steve............. I played a trick on our local Nissan dealership a couple years ago to prove to my father that they don't know how to troubleshoot anything anymore. I put a bad fuse in the fuse panel for the AT control, which causes the car not to shift at all. I know this because some time earlier, I found this out doing battle with my old automatic tranny. I took it to the dealership playing deaf and dumb, half expecting them to find it. The service writer comes up to me half an hour later and tells me I need a remanufactured automatic transmission. I asked him if they checked everything just to be sure, since that was a lot of money for a new one...... He continues to say that they even connected the computer, and it indicated evenything electrical was OK, which is not possible since it didn't even have power, and it won't even light up, let alone give out codes. Of course my dad is right there with me. I tell the service manager to give me this in writing, so he does... I then ask him to go get his boss, I want to show them something....... A few minutes later, he shows up with one of the owners of the dealership. I show him the written estimate for $3000 for a reman auto tranny installed. He's like "ok", what's the question... I reached into my pocket and pulled a good fuse out. The service manager had a kind of puzzled look on his face, whereas the owner knew right then he'd been had... I changed out the fuses, and then told them to go take the car for a drive and tell me I needed a new automatic transmission... The service manager said "We'd have caught it eventually". I said when? $3000.00 later when it wasnt even necessary? The owner/partner just apologized, but I got the feeling he really didn't give a shit. I told the owner that I really hoped he didnt encourage this practice, as its taking advantage of a LOT of naive people who just need their cars fixed, and that if it's not done intentionally, they need to train their mechanics to troubleshoot instead of just hanging parts... Since then, I've never taken a vehicle to a dealership, or a shop where I didn't know the owner or mechanic on a personal level.
Sorry for the long read, it just seemed worth mentioning. |

Re: My pooor Vert
Well worth the read. I've seen the same thing. Next time you talk to my wife ask her about the 240sx and the cruise control. The cruise was working perfect and Nissan did the front crank seal and tune up on the 240, when we picked it up the cruise wouldn't work so the car was left and supposedly fixed, or as the mechanic said nothing was wrong with it. Janet took it down the road while I was bsing with the shop manager when all of a sudden here comes the 240 right in the middle of the shop and her bailing out of the car screaming who the hell worked on this car. This dumb ass sayes he did and she lite into his ass saying maybe you can show me how to work it since we've had this car since it was new. The whole shop was looking and laughing at the kid.
makes me wonder about the new front springs I had them put on too. The Superior Cadillac SM was driving the car when I got it and guess who owns the Nissan dealership Superior. The TB was done a couple months before I got the car so I'm sure they just cobble patched shit on it. Lucky I've not had anything serious with it. Now you know why it bothered me and I didn't bring it to Branson. Oh yeah Chris, pull the airconditioning fuse on chevy 4x4's and it'll knock out the 4 wheel drive even though it's not marked as the 4x4 fuse. Last edited by tnkrstoyco : 05-10-2006 at 04:10 PM. |

An aoto tranny is so complex that dealers usally either overlook the small stuff or don't know shit about it to begin with. it seems everyone eventually does battle with their A/T. |

Re: My pooor Vert
When this new Nissan dealer opens it could spell the end for Superior in Fayetteville. They have a terrible rep for screw ups. Superior was in the bids to get the new dealership but as I understand it they won't be getting it, can't release the name of the new dealership as yet, but it won't be Superior. The dealerships will only be 10 miles apart.
The worse thing is the shop manager used to be the best Z mechanic around, he still does outside work on z's at his shop. He's the one that pulled the engine that Pete got for his TT and did the install of the new engine for Bill. |

Re: My pooor Vert
It goes higher than him. Before Superior bought out the dealer it was Avis Nissan. Avis is one hatefull Biatch, she still runs the place. There is one other guy in the shop that's good and one trainie that's good. The rest are screw ups.
I think Nick has reached burn-out with them. I'd slapped the bitch long ago if it were me. |

Re: My pooor Vert
Not at all. I have a take no prisoners policy when it come to dealing with ass holes and bitches.
Me and Avis went a big round over one of my cars being broken into on her lot and her not accepting responsibility on it. Took 85 days, my lawyer and my insurance company to get the car fixed. They had worked on it and parked it outside on an unsecured lot without proper lighting and no security. Then failed to contact me it was fixed. I've had 7 cars from this dealership 4 of which I still own. They pissed off one of my friends and he got the owner of the Superior Group to come in and straighten them out when he bought his 350, Chris will know who I'm talking about. Tim's TT 350. |

Re: My pooor Vert
Maybe by this time next week I'll have my vert back again. Just looked it over and talk about a total f-up. I don't think there is any way that everything could have been as bad as it is in 21k miles.
I wish I'd known so I could have pre-ordered everything. |

Re: My pooor Vert
Well there's no way to ever go back on Nissan, but it's obivous that the full service wasn't done. They are waiting on the crank gear right now, ended up having to split it to get it off. He spent almost 3 hours trying to pull it and I told him just split the sob and get a new one. Like I said a lot of the parts look like they've never been changed.

Re: My pooor Vert
Got the vert back again. Picked it up friday and found a couple hose seeps so I took it back and told them to recheck everything and then go drive it for a while then call me back.
Went and picked it up and got it back to the wash. Have to wait for the wife to come by so we can get averything back to the garage. |
