» Electric Fan Constant Run Modification
Electric Fan Constant Run Hardwire
Article Date: 05-02-05
Author: Zeorymer
Mod Class: Z32 NA or TT with Electric Fan Upgrade
Mod Type: Cooling System / Electrical
Article Origin: Zmods.org
Difficulty Level: 4 (Scale of 1 to 10. 1 being extremely easy, 10 being extremely difficult.)
Estimated Time to Complete: Less than an hour

Tools Required:
Wire cutters & crimpers, 4ft of 16-18 gauge wire, #2 Phillips screwdriver, and 10MM socket

A rule of thumb to live by:
ANY TIME you work with something electrical on your Z, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY! This will avoid ruining any electrical systems from accidental shorts and so on. Now that you've disconnected the battery, we can begin! :)

This how I did mine (It's on a TT, but it can't be too different for the NA.): Thanks to Mitch for sending me some install recommendations.
Doing it this way will make the electric fan run only when the ignition is turned on, but for 100% of your drive. I guess you could use a thermostat switch if you don't want it to be on the whole time.

Top view (notice the wiring.)

Wire looms come in handy:

Feed the positive and negative wires to a Relay. I chose this mounting location for the relay because I felt it was the best path:

From the relay there should be three wires, ground , remote/ignition signal, and power with a inline fuse . Ground the ground wire directly to the body somewhere close to the relay to get the best possible grounding. Next feed the power wire to the positive terminal of the battery:

Now feed the remote/ignition signal wire from the relay into the wire loom taking it over to the fuse box on the driver's side of the engine bay. I loomed it to go under the radiator support:

Straight under the fuse block:

You can use the Radiator fan relay as an ignition source:

In this pic, there is a screw (behind my big finger) securing the fuse block down tight. Loosen the screw to make feeding the wire under it easy.
