Finally pieced together my new fronstage
Last summer I sold my CDT 6.5" components to my buddy so I could buy new tires. The plan was to piece together a new setup by the fall, and have it installed by the winter. Didn't happen. Around september, I took advantage of a group buy that Second Skin was running, and picked up 40 sq ft of origional damplifier, and 24 sq ft of overkill (closed cell neoprene foam) all at %25 off A month or so later I picked up a used set of Image Dynamics CD1-pro minihorns for $225 shipped with a spare set of bodies. That's about where it stalled, since money got diverted elsewhere. Yesterday I finally got around to buying the peerless 8" midbasses to go with the horns, so my 10 months of piss poor audio will end as soon as I finish finals.
FWIW, I reinstalled the bose fronts after I sold the CDT's, and I ran them off my JL 300/4. Thankfully my h/u has a ton of eq'ing power, since I lost the built in eq'ing when I ditched the stock deck. In december, the drivers side bose mid tore itself to pieces. I then went about 4 months without a pass side mid, until I temporarily threw in an old clarion mid I had laying around. Yea, I can't friggen wait Here's the deadener, all of which will get layed onto the doors. I'll need it to keep the 8's from tearing my doors apart Here's the horns and here's the midbasses that should be here in a few business days I'll get some real pics of the mids up when they arrive, and in a couple weeks I'll start the build pics

under the dash - With a little more trimming of the flange(right by the motor), I think they'll tuck up nicely to the left of the clutch. |

Re: Finally pieced together my new fronstage
Got some goodies today
I think if I play my cards right, I should be able to just fit them behind the door panels |

Re: Finally pieced together my new fronstage
well I'll fast forward to the end of the install. The door panels fit back on, but I need to get some resin to glass the mounts for the door panel clip back on.
The horns are installed also, but I don't have any pics of them. After a little trimming of the horn body, and of the drivers kick panel, I got them to tuck up out of the way. I don't even notice them anymore. The mids freakin rock. I really can live without subs right now. I've got the mids open on the bottom end. They play solid at full volume down into the 40hz range, and if you click it back a few notches, they play clean down into the 30's. The mids are very snappy. Mudvayne - Dig has become one of my new favorites Above 1000hz or so, the imaging is very good (horn are known for having good imaging out of the box with little tuning). Below that the stage pulls left a bit, but a little time alignment will fix that. I think the most pleasing part is how high the sensitivity of the setup is. Right now they're running off a jl 300/4, which does 75rms @ 1.5 - 4ohms. The mids and horns are both 8ohm drivers, so the mids aren't seeing more than 40rms, and the horns probably aren't seeing more than 5 watts rms since I've got the gains WAY back(they have a 103db sensitivity ). As it sit's they're just about as loud as my old setup, with less than half the power. Last edited by 93daytona : 06-25-2006 at 11:06 PM. |

Re: Finally pieced together my new fronstage
ehhh - what the hell - pics of the door panel fitted back on. Like I said above, I just need to glass the clips back on.
and clearances - I had to use a scrap of mdf to hold the panel off the speaker, so the panel will be bowed out slightly |
